Here in England, we're taught from an early age that education comprises the three 'R's - Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic (Math if you're American). The basics of life.

And the same should apply to your advertisements and marketing campaigns, no matter what country you're reading this in.

The magical three 'R's in advertising are:

Reincarnation (Long Life)
Reward
Romance.

The more your ads and marketing campaigns conform to this letter 'R', the more they conform to your customer's hidden, secret, primal needs, and the more successful the response. Let's check out the hidden magic here:

Reincarnation. All of us want to leave something behind to be remembered for after we've gone. Can your product extend a life, for example, both in the physical (long life) sense, and the ever after? The most powerful advertisements here show the father with his young son, the mother and her young daughter, the father, as protector, with his family. This doesn't work so well if you use adult children in the campaign.

Reward. The benefits from buying your product or service. Monetary rewards and riches are the primary motives here. But, apart from that, you should concentrate your marketing efforts away from how good your product is, and instead, concentrate on the benefits (rewards) your product will give your customer. Longer life, better health, millions in the bank, better relationships, to be better able to conform to their local environment's standards, whether at home, work or in the neighborhood,to be more successful, or to be just generally able to out perform his rivals in front of his companions. To be a winner.

Make your customer think he's won the selling and buying battle. Give him a free gift, a coupon, a discount on his next purchase with you. Make your customer feel needed and special. Because he is - he's the reason why our businesses exist. We just don't need to tell him it's all a marketing ploy. Reward your customer - and he'll reward you afterward time after time, because you've made him feel a winner.

Romance: the strongest of the three 'R's, by performance anyway. Sex sells. Enough said really, isn't it? Can your product enhance a customer in the eyes of their nearest and dearest, or make them more successful with the opposite sex, or make a woman more beautiful.

The three 'R's. The ultimate, primal, driving force of all human life. Aim to make your ads conform to this hidden, secret code, perhaps mixing and matching some or all of them in a single campaign.
